Duke Ellington’s swing is brought to life as the UMO Jazz Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra join forces once again. The programme includes the classic album Symphonic Ellington and its iconic musical description of Harlem.
Antti Rissanen conducts the orchestras as they take on familiar and fresher arrangements of the music of the jazz giant.

Duke Ellingtonin svengi herää eloon UMOn ja Helsingin kaupunginorkesterin lyöttäytyessä jälleen yhteen. Illan aikana kuullaan mm. Ellingtonin sinfonisin teos Symphonic Ellington ja sen ikoninen naapurustokuvaus Harlem, sekä kuningatar Elisabeth II:lle sävelletty The Queen’s Suite. 
Niin tutut kuin tuoreemmatkin sovitukset jazzin aatelismiehen sävelistä kipparoi Antti Rissanen.
– Tämän konsertin sisältö jakautuu ensimmäisen puoliajan taiteellisempaan Ellingtoniin ja toisen puoliajan viihteellisempään Ellingtoniin. Musiikki on instrumentaalimusiikkia, värikästä sellaista. Se sisältää voimakkaita tunteita ja varsin paljoneri instrumenttien soolo-osuuksia, niin sävellyttyjä kuin improvisoituja. Itse odotan tätä suurella innolla. Tästä tulee aivan mielettömän hauska ja mielenkiintoinen, hehkuttaa kapellimestari Antti Rissanen.
