The long and colourful career of Jamaican Ernest Ranglin is like no other: Ranglin got started with the early ska, calypso, reggae and dub bands of the 1950s and 60s and was involved in creating the soundscapes of those new and developing styles. Mixing virtuoso jazz guitar playing with a reggae beat, Ranglin has worked with practically all Jamaican music greats from Bob Marley and the Wailers to Jimmy Cliff and Lee “Scratch” Perry.
The farewell tour of 83-year-old Ranglin comes to Huvila Festival Tent with a true world music super band. Senegalese singer Cheikh Lô is one of the biggest names in West African music, and his unique voice has been charming audiences since the 1990s. Playing the drums is afrobeat icon Tony Allen, known for his work with Fela Kuti. Representing traditional jazz in the line-up are bass player Ira Coleman, who has worked with, for example, Herbie Hancock and Sting, and pianist Alex Wilson, a hot name in Latin jazz.
