Brötzmann emerged in the politically tumultuous late 1960s and caught attention with his large groups featuring Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, Han Bennink and more, blowing holes in the listener’s consciousness with recordings such as Machine Gun, Fuck De Boere and Nipples. Since then he’s been a major name in European free jazz across the decades, an incendiary live performer who’s appeared on over 100 albums and collaborated with an utter Who’s Who of improvised music from all sides of the globe.
Heather Leigh operates out of Glasgow via West Virginia and has similarly played and recorded with a kaleidoscope of alt-rock and improv luminaries, notably Charalambides, Scorces (a duo with Christina Carter), Dream Aktion Unit (with Thurston Moore, Paul Flaherty, Chris Corsano, Matt Heyner), Annihilating Light (with Stefan Jaworzyn), Robbie Yeats (the Dead C), John Olson (Wolf Eyes) and many more. ARTTU PARTINEN & SAMI PEKKOLA
The music of Sami Pekkola (Mohel, Taco Bells) and Arttu Partinen (Amon Düde, Avarus) is in constant search of clarity through endless beginnings and a relentless swing created by way too many factors. The destination is found and lost again and again but eventually all the possible pieces find their places in the puzzle. Partinen has a rare ability to control randomness created with tapes and effect devices. It’s baffling how easily his sounds become one with the seemingly reckless saxophone playing of mister Pekkola. The first live appearance of this duet took place in Sheffield in December 2006 and now they celebrate their 10-year history.

Peter Brötzmann ilmestyi ryminällä jazzin kentälle 1960-luvun loppupuolella. Hänen johtamiensa laajojen kokoonpanojen riveissä mm. Evan Parker, Derek Bailey ja Han Bennink tykittelivät reikiä kuulijoiden tajuntoihin. Brötzmannin tunnetuin levytys lienee hänen itsensä alunperin vuonna 1968 julkaisema Machine Gun. Brötzmannin diskografia käsittää pitkälti toistasataa levytystä ja hän kiertää ja soittaa edelleen erittäin aktiivisesti. Kaiken kaikkiaan Brötzmann on ehdottomasti yksi eurooppalaisen free jazzin keskeisimmistä tekijöistä.
Heather Leighin vuonna 2015 julkaistu soolodebyytti I Abused Animal noteerattiin korkealle monilla vuoden parhaiden levyjen listoilla. Leighin soitin on raivoisan intensiivisesti soitettu pedal steel-kitara. Leighin soittokumppaneita vuosien varrella ovat olleet mm. Thurston Moore, Chris Corsano, Christina Carter ja John Olson. Brötzmannin kanssa Leigh soitti ensimmäisen kerran loppuvuodesta 2015 ja nyt kaksikko saapuu ensimmäisen kiertueensa tiimoilta Suomeen.
ARTTU PARTINEN & SAMI PEKKOLA
Arttu Partisen (Avarus, Amon Düde) ja Sami Pekkolan (Mohel, Taco Bells) musiikki etsii kirkkautta loputtomien alkujen ja liian monen osatekijän muodostaman svengin avulla. Päämäärä löytyy ja pakenee jatkuvasti, kaikki mahdolliset palikat löytävät kuitenkin välittömästi paikkansa palapelissä. Partisen harvinainen kyky hallita satunnaisuutta nauhojen ja efektien avulla yhdistyy häkellyttävän helposti yhdeksi soinniksi Pekkolan holtittomalta vaikuttavan saksofonin soiton kanssa. Duon ensimmäinen julkinen esiintyminen koettiin Sheffieldissä joulukuussa 2006. Nyt duo juhlistaakin yhteistä 10-vuotista taivaltaan juhlakonserttien merkeissä.
