The high priest of Finnish jazz, saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen, brings to TTT-klubi his quartet and a special quest, trumpeter Jukka Eskola.
Eero Koivistonen was the first musician to receive the Finnish Jazz Federation’s Yrjö Prize in 1967. While Koivistoinen was studying music at the Berklee School of Music and working with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans, Jack DeJohnette, Randy Brecker and John Scofield, new trends of American jazz first arrived in Finland.
Koivistoinen is known from giving preference to rhythm in his style, and for instance his jazz fusion album Wahoo! (Eero Koivistoinen Music Society) that nods at funk remains a wanted item among collectors. A long collaboration with African musicians has also had a strong impact on his playing. On the piano, Koivistoinen has Alexi Tuomarila – also the choice of the legendary Tomasz Stanko on his tours in Europe and United States. The rhythm section consists of bassist Jori Huhtala and drummer Jussi Lehtonen. Eero Koivistoinen Quartet will release a brand new album just before their concert TTT-klubi, so we are surely in for some new numbers.An interesting addition to the crew will be the hot trumpeter Jukka Eskola, who holds a similar pioneer’s status within his generation. Eskola has been rewarded with Sony Jazz Award and selected as the Pori Jazz Young Artist of the Year. One of the cornerstones of the Helsinki scene, Eskola has been a strong presence in such groups as NuSpirit Helsinki, The Five Corners Quintet, Teddy Rok Seven, Jo Stance and Ricky-Tick Big Band.
Not long ago, in November 2014, Koivistoinen and Eskola embarked on their tour in Japan, and now these heavyweights of Finnish jazz will play side by side in Tampere!

Suomalaisen jazzin toteemi, saksofonisti Eero Koivistoinen tuo TTT-Klubille kvartettinsa sekä erikoisvieraana trumpetisti Jukka Eskolan.Eero Koivistoinen sai Suomen Jazzliiton myöntämän Yrjö-palkinnon kaikkien aikojen ensimmäisenä muusikkona (1967). Amerikkalaisen jazzin uudet virtaukset saapuivat jaettavaksi Suomeen, kun Koivistoinen opiskeli Berkleen School of Musicissa ja työskenteli Dizzy Gillespien, Gil Evansin, Jack DeJohnetten, Randy Breckerin ja John Scofieldin kaltaisten muusikoiden kanssa.Koivistoinen tunnetaan vahvasta rytmin käsittelystä, ja esimerkiksi hänen funkille flirttaileva fuusiolevynsä Wahoo! (Eero Koivistoinen Music Society) on edelleen haluttu harvinaisuus myös kansainvälisten keräilijöiden haaveissa. Syvyyttä soittoon on tuonut sittemmin myös laaja-alainen yhteistyö afrikkalaisten muusikoiden kanssa. Säveltäjänä Koivistoinen on big band -ympäristössä Suomen esitetyimpiä sekä yksi harvoista jazzmiehistä, joiden teoksia on kuultu myös sinfoniaorkestereiden ohjelmistossa.Koivistoisen kvartetissa pianistina vaikuttaa Alexi Tuomarila – myös legendaarisen ECM-muusikon Tomasz Stánkon valinta tämän Euroopan- ja Yhdysvaltain-kiertueilla. Bassosta vastaa Jori Huhtala ja rummuista Jussi Lehtonen. Eero Koivistoinen Quartetilta ilmestyy uusi albumi juuri TTT-Klubin konsertin alla, joten uutta ohjelmistoa on luvassa klassikoiden rinnalla.
Kiinnostavana eturivin lisävahvistuksena TTT-Klubilla nähdään kuuma trumpetisti Jukka Eskola, joka on saavuttanut omassa sukupolvessaan samanlaisen pioneerin aseman kuin Koivistoinen aikoinaan, tunnustuksina mm. Sony Jazzpalkinto ja Pori Jazzin vuoden nuori taiteilija. Helsingin urbaanin jazz-skenen ässä on puhaltanut esimerkiksi yhtyeissä NuSpirit Helsinki, The Five Corners Quintet, Teddy Rok Seven, Jo Stance ja Ricky-Tick Big Band.Koivistoinen ja Eskola lähtivät yhteisellä Japanin-kiertueelle marraskuussa 2014.
